It takes place at a time when the weather is fine as the rainy season is over and there is a high water level all over the country. The ceremony is believed to have originated in the time of King Ramkhamhaeng of Sukhothai, the first capital of Thailand.

✦ Loy Krathong is a Thai festival in November each year celebrated throughout the kingdom as well as nearby countries or states with Tai culture such as Laos 🇱🇦, Shan/Mon/Tanintharyi 🇲🇲, Kelantan/Kedah 🇲🇾 and Xishuangbanna 🇨🇳 with different names.
