After the success of the Thai TV Drama "Love Destiny: บุพเพสันนิวาส" (2018), Khmer changed its national dress to claim the origins of the Thai dress, as well as accusations that Thailand stole culture from Cambodia on social media, causing quarrels between the two countries, and spread to international political problems.

The saying of the Khmer people is "Everything that belongs to Thailand belongs to the Khmers - the Khmer people have the right to take it back", which is a disgusting nationalist idea.

Thai national and traditional costumes have strong influence towards the neighboring country Cambodia. Cambodia's traditional costumes were changed to be the style of Thailand after the year 2018 owing to the big hit of a Thai period drama showing ancient Thai costumes and culture; Bupphe Sanniwat or Love Destiny, in Cambodia.
