According to Thai tradition, the seven Songkran Ladies are the daughters of Kapila Brahma. Each year, one goddess represents Songkran, depending on the day of the week Maha Songkran falls on.

The legend tells how the seven daughters take turns carrying their father's sacred head in a procession around Mount Meru.
